I went to the library today, and there were no Ann Coulter books. I wanted to check out "Guilty". I live in a mostly liberal area, so it doesn't surprise me. Liberal area, liberal library. But I ordered it from a different library.
I think the librarian was a bit skeptical that I was checking out an Ann Coulter book. This is our society: any teenager that isn't in front of a screen is abnormal. Some librarians would creep out if they saw a teenager in a library (unless they were in there to use the computer), let alone checking out a politics-related book.
Kids today are apparently not supposed to care.
Ask my friends. I can't even breathe a word of politics around them. Of course, that's okay. We can talk about other things... books, movies, teachers, friends, music, random thoughts, upcoming tests. But it hurts me to see them recoil every time I mention "Obama" or "government" or "abortion". They shouldn't shrink away from their future. They should embrace it. Savor it. SAVE it. But instead they walk around like zombies, oblivious to the world outside the screen or the stage or the speakers. It's society's snare, and so many can't resist.
Why has society done this to us? It must stop. We must be aware of America. Because before we know it, it will be ours, and we won't know what to do.
